As an all ages event, we are reaching out to younger people and families to participate in the 9th Annual Everglades Awareness Benefit Concert at Gramps on Sunday, September 18, 2016. People are never too young to learn about the environment, care about the ecosystem and enjoy good music. We are reaching out to the schools and the teachers to participate in this event. 

We are planning on some kids activities - especially for the early part of the day. New ideas are welcomed and we will see how we can fit them in the current plans.

Love The Everglades Movement (LTEM) is a multi-faceted environmental organization that works to bolster public support for the Everglades with community outreach events. One of the things that makes LTEM a unique organization comes from our full spectrum format that combines education with the arts, spirituality and the inclusion of diverse communities. Our goal is to empower people and provide outlets to protect the Everglades and our natural resources. 

Day 3 (Sun, Aug 14) is an opportunity for direct action with an Everglades Clean-Up that brings people into the Everglades to remove garbage and invasive plants. This hands-on excursion will connect individuals and communities to the wilderness and waterways by providing education and experiences. This gathering will be open to people of all ages and offer a chance to interact with nature beneficially. This is a new component to the Summer Symposium and we are partnering with an assortment of organizations to generate solid engagement.

Cypress likes to recall a famous Teddy Roosevelt quote: “Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.” Such is the spirit of this year’s Summer Symposium, to be held at Miccosukee Resort & Convention Center 500 SW 177th Ave, Miami, FL 33194 August 6, F.I.U. Modesto Maidique Campus 11200 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33199 August 7, and a cleanup will be in the Everglades along the Tamiami Trail at the L-29 Levee and L-67 Levee at the ValuJet Crash Memorial Site on August 14. This year’s theme is “Giving Back To The Everglades”, and judging from the extensive programming of speakers, presentations, workshops, live entertainment, and a hands-on Everglades cleanup, both the quote and the theme apply perfectly. More specifically, the Summer Symposium’s focus will cover Everglades ecology, spirituality, activist reports on environmental crises, art, and community involvement.
