Canine Art, Man's Best Friend, Flying Dogs — Oh My!

Renowned South Florida artist Skip Hartzell creates unique art inspired by man’s best friend. His inspiration comes in the form of a morning walk, accompanied by a furry friend. The canine-inspired artworks that he creates are figments of his artistic imagination and creative vision. Hartzell creates directly from his emotions and instincts, his work is inspired by dogs of all shapes, sizes and varieties.

The artist creates large paintings and works on paper that capture the essence of “dog”. He is best known for his unique sculptures recognized immediately by their distinct form and style that only Hartzell can produce. His painterly expression captures each dog’s own personality with beautiful textures, line and brush strokes using mixed media to bring each dog to life.

Art Collectors, art aficionados and dog lovers alike are experiencing Skip Hartzell’s Dogs at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County presents “The Satellite,” pop-up exhibition and event space on view at CityPlace. The space includes a visitor information center, an art and design lecture series and special events and programming from local cultural organizations. Located at 701 S. Rosemary Avenue, Suite 116, West Palm Beach, Florida (just off the main plaza).

“Dogs are always in the moment. Although nothing in life has held my attention longer or has been more fascinating to me than dogs, my work is about much more than that. PAMM Exhibition Opening: The Other Side of Now

Experience the opening celebration of The Other Side of Now: Foresight in Contemporary Caribbean Art at the Pérez Art Museum Miami on Thursday, July 18th at 6:30pm. Enjoy a conversation with co-curators María Elena Ortiz and Dr. Marsha Pearce, facilitated by contributing catalogue writer Jason Jeffers, exploring the ideas, motivations, and origins of the project while seeking to address the question “what might a Caribbean future look like?” Following the conversation, meet with featured exhibition artists in the gallery for informal discussions on this timely and relevant theme.

The Other Side of Now: Foresight in Contemporary Caribbean Art is on view through June 7, 2020 and is curated by María Elena Ortiz, Associate Curator at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), and Dr. Marsha Pearce, Cultural Studies Scholar based at The University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus.

Art Workshop: Made at PAMM

Experience Made at PAMM at the Pérez Art Museum Miami on Thursday, July 18th from 6-8:30pm. Every Thursday, enjoy art after dark at PAMM. Oolite Arts: Opening Reception & Artist Open Studios

Enjoy the opening night of “It will never become quite familiar to you” at Oolite Arts on Wednesday, July 17th from 7-9pm. Guests will experience an Opening Reception + Artist Open Studios + Alumni Grant drawing. The reception will be held alongside artist open studios, a quarterly event where art lovers can meet the resident artists in their workspaces and learn about their practice. About the Exhibition: Through an exploration of intimate spaces and histories, eight artists investigate life with dual-heritage – having an identity in two places, a complicated relationship to each, and a longing for familiarity to both. With identities rooted in the United States and the global south, the artists manifest the nuances of intersectional identity in a series of deeply personal works creating collective meaning through empathy. Local Views at PAMM: Rodolfo Peraza

Experience a local, Miami artist at the Pérez Art Museum Miami on Thursday, June 27th from 6-6:30pm enjoy PAMM’s in-gallery tour program. Local Views at PAMM is where select local artists speak about a few works of art currently on view at the museum. This month, Rodolfo Peraza will lead the tour. Peraza is a Cuban-born multimedia artist who works between Cuba and the US. His work focuses on public spaces, both virtual and physical, as well as DataVis of matters related to the Internet culture and the footprint it leaves in society.

Local Views at PAMM gives visitors a first-hand interaction with local artists by creating conversations centered around art and the creative process. This casual 30-minute conversation takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month. Free with museum admission. First come, first served.
